Poodle-Breed Information
The Poodle is an all-around great dog. They are friendly, intelligent, and make a loving
addition to any family household.
It is a show-off who loves being center stage. This is an athletic dog who loves to play, and
is very friendly. The Poodle is an excellent companion with qualities that make it one of the
most popular dogs in the world.
You'll want to spend time letting your Toy Poodle get to know other people as they are
very protective of "their" people. Poodles are also very aware of their "territory" and make
good watchdogs.
Your Poodle also needs grooming and you'll need to find a qualified groomer to work with
and determine which "cut" you would like for your poodle. There are many different types
of cuts that require varying degrees of care at home as well. You can discuss with your
groomer how much time you have to care for your Poodle's grooming at home. For more
information on grooming a "long-coated" dog, visit the pet care page.
History of the Poodle:
The Poodle of old was widely recognized as a French water dog. Bred initially as a water
retriever, this breed was bred down to the three known sizes: Standard, Miniature and Toy.
As the Standard Poodle was bred down in size, it became more popular as a family pet.
